Green Room earns its place as one of the tightest, most brutally effective survival horror films of its decade by refusing to give its characters or its audience a single easy way out. Jeremy Saulnier builds the siege with a mechanical, almost procedural attention to detail, letting the band's desperate improvisation and the skinheads' cold efficiency play out with real tactical logic rather than horror-movie shortcuts. Patrick Stewart delivers a performance built entirely on quiet, businesslike menace, playing the white supremacist club owner as someone solving a logistics problem rather than a cartoon villain, which makes him considerably more frightening. Anton Yelchin anchors the band's escalating panic with a physicality that sells every injury and every small tactical decision as a matter of survival. It's unglamorous, unsentimental, and relentlessly tense from the moment the door locks, one of the genre's great single-location thrillers.
