South Pasadena supplied Michael Myers' childhood home. The building, now called Century House, was later moved north of its filming position.
The opening of Halloween gives Michael Myers a childhood home in fictional Haddonfield, Illinois. Its real counterpart stood in South Pasadena and was abandoned when the production used it. The building was subsequently renovated and moved north, becoming the Century House. That relocation makes this an unusually slippery landmark: the surviving house and the original filming position are different places. The area marker preserves that distinction while inviting a closer look at how Carpenter made an ordinary California neighborhood feel haunted.

The Overlook's mountain exterior belongs to Oregon's Timberline Lodge. Its establishing shots connect to a hotel built for the camera in England; the famous maze was not here.
Timberline’s shape extends far beyond Oregon. American Cinematographer’s production photographs show an Overlook exterior built from the lodge’s design, while John Alcott describes the hotel rooms and maze as carefully planned sets. Cardboard models let him test the light before the full-size spaces were ready. The rear facade and adjacent maze stood on an English studio backlot. On your next watch, look for the moment a recognizable building becomes an invented world, without the hotel seeming to change.
